Leeu Passant Stellenbosch Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 tasting notes

Stellenbosch is the natural home for Cabernet Sauvignon and Leeu Passant Stellenbosch Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 represents the distinguished elegance and balance that the grape can excude there.

The vineyards are planted in the cooler parts of Stellenbosch which are Firgrove, on the slopes of the Helderberg Mountain and on the Polkadraai Hills. A combination of modern and traditional wine making teechniques is used. The fruit is completely destemmed, naturally fermented and aged in 500L French oak barrels.

Notes of cassis, tarragon, graphite and cedar on the nose. Following on, these continue on the palate which has a silky texture and great structure from the fine tannins. In addition, reshness and finess balance the richness and power of the wine. Finally, the finish is dry with lingering blackcurrent and blueberry flavours.

About Leeu Passant

In 2007 Chris and Andrea Mullineux established Mullineux Family Wines in the Swartland wine region of South Africa. For many years, our viticulturist, Rosa Kruger, had been enthusing to us about special parcels of vines outside the Swartland. We couldn’t use these as our Mullineux and Kloof Street ranges are exclusively from Swartland vineyards.

The partnership of Chris & Andrea with Analjit Singh in 2013, and the renaming of the company to Mullineux & Leeu Family Wines, opened the way for a new project .

Leeu Passant is based at the wine cellar on Leeu Estates in Franschhoek. As a result, Leeu Passant was a fantastic opportunity to harness these exciting vineyards to create something under a new label in a different wine region.

Chris and Andrea share a no-compromise approach to quality to the Mullineux range of wines.
